We are committed to making IDC programs more accessible
Audio description is just one step in the right direction - we’re just getting started! So many ideas, so much inspiration, so little time.

This written program has audio recording of the text available for those who are blind, visually impaired, or have audio preferences.
We’ve also selected “I’ve just been in my head a lot today,” choreographed by Katrina Atkin, as our first foray into audio description for dance. We know folks who are blind and visually impaired want to be able to attend arts and culture events with their community. The linked audio description is intended to be listened to in real time, along with the music in the theater and the sounds created by the dancers on stage. We welcome you to listen if you’re curious or might enjoy words to complement the movement on stage.
Audio description for dance is a complex undertaking that requires familiarity with the choreographer’s process, form, and terminology as well as the specific piece’s dancers, culture, ideas, and goals. Vocabulary has been chosen to avoid most dance-specific jargon, while simultaneously being time efficient and as descriptive as possible in imagery and feel.
This effort is a pilot in the Isthmus Dance Collective’s accessibility goals and has been made possible by support from the Ruth Foundation for the Arts as well as a connection with the Madison Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
